FrontPage will let you create your website offline, storing your files on your computer … but in order to “Publish” your Website so that other people can view it you will need a Web Hosting Account with FrontPage Extensions installed on it. If you need to install FrontPage Extensions on your Hosting Account you can do that yourself. Just open up your Cpanel and click on the “FrontPage Extensions” Icon > Install. That’s it. The counter and other “WebBots” will only work when they are on the internet, because they require a web server’s FrontPage Extensions in order to operate. You should be able to see them by viewing your website in any web browser (Netscape Navigator, Microsoft Internet Explorer, etc.) If your Hit Counter is still displaying the words [Hit Counter] you may have installed it incorrectly How do I add a FrontPage Hit Counter to a Web Page?

A site created with FrontPage should NOT be uploaded through FTP or some features will not work! You need to connect using HTTP Note: FrontPage maintains index and configuration files on the remote site. If you add web pages to the site with plain FTP, the changes will not be recorded, and FrontPage may begin to function abnormally thereafter. It is recommended that you Only Use FrontPage to modify a FrontPage site, connecting via HTTP. How to properly connect FrontPage via HTTP (Note: Your Hosting Account Must have FrontPage Extensions installed) Here is the correct way to connect FrontPage:
5) Click on <Open> button and then in the “Name and Password Required” window enter your user name and password assigned to your Web Hosting Account in “Name” and “Password” box.
6) Click <OK> button then your website will be opened for editing. Double click on index.htm file and start to edit this home page file. After you finished editing the index file, save it and you will see your changes by refreshing your browser!
